Samantha “Sam” I. Stellhorn, 59, of Red Bud, Illinois, passed away on July 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, service, and love that touched the lives of everyone who knew her. A devoted mental health professional, mother, and friend, Sam's journey began on September 9, 1965, in Denver, Colorado, where she was born to the late Norton and Mary Ann Newcomb.
A Committed Professional
Sam's professional life was characterized by a deep commitment to helping others. From 2005 to 2016, she worked at the Human Service Center (now ComWell) in Red Bud, where her roles ranged from Mental Health Therapist to Crisis Coordinator. Her dedication didn't end there; afterward, she served at the Menard Correctional Center in Chester until her retirement in 2022, where she continued to support those in need.
Family First
In addition to her career, Sam cherished her family above all. Married to Timothy D. Stellhorn since September 28, 1991, she created a loving environment for their three children: Sophia, Olivia, and Savannah. Weekend trips filled with boating at Kinkaid Lake, jeep rides, family dinners, and painting sessions exemplified her belief that family time was sacred. Sam's love for gardening was also apparent, often sharing her passion for growing medicinal plants with her loved ones.

Sam was not just a devoted wife and mother; she also played an active role in her community and faith. A long-standing member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, her faith guided her actions and interactions. Sam will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her visitation service took place on July 18, 2025, at Pechacek Funeral Homes in Red Bud, with a private graveside service following.
