Create Lasting Memories: Chester High School's Christmas Extravaganza
On December 6, the Chester High School Student Council opened their doors to local families for the event of the season—the inaugural ‘Christmas Extravaganza’ was held at Chester High School. Spanning from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the festive gathering invited children and their families to partake in free holiday activities, coinciding with Chester’s annual Christmas on the River celebration.
A Community Effort: Bringing Ideas to Life
In the months leading up to the event, Student Council members had been filled with ideas but struggled to bring them to fruition until senior member Southern LaChance stepped up to lead the project. Co-sponsor Erin Conley expressed gratitude for LaChance’s initiative, stating, “It was the perfect time for this event, and we have finally made it happen!” The dedication observed by the students and faculty alike exemplified a pivotal moment in firming up community ties while igniting the holiday spirit.
Festivities Galore: Stations and Activities that Thrilled
Inside the Dr. James F. Sharp Cafeteria, various activity stations were set up to keep the children entertained and engaged. From coloring Christmas pictures to playing Bingo for small prizes, the atmosphere was pulsating with joy. Perhaps one of the favorite attractions was the Glitter Tattoo station, where young attendees adorned themselves with festive designs. Additionally, children were encouraged to express their wishes in letters to Santa, which they could hand-deliver later in the day.
Bake Sale Bliss: Supporting Future Endeavors
What would a Christmas event be without scrumptious treats? The Student Council’s Bake Sale featured a mouthwatering array of cookies, brownies, and seasonal sweets. According to Co-sponsor Amy Miller, “The bake sale profits will go towards funding future Student Council projects that will benefit our community.” It's an inspiring model of how local initiatives can intertwine social enjoyment with proactive community development.
Special Guests and a Magical Atmosphere
To everyone's delight, the event also welcomed surprise guests—Santa Claus and the Grinch! The children had the chance to meet their holiday heroes and share their festive wishes. As a special touch, a photographer recorded these enchanting moments, further enhancing the joyful memories created during this celebration.
Cinematic Cheer: A Movie Treat
As if that wasn’t enough, attendees were invited to wind down with a showing of “The Grinch” in Colbert Gymnasium. Equipped with a massive video screen and cozy seating options, families brought along blankets and snacks to enjoy a classic holiday film. This element of the event symbolized relaxation and joy amidst the bustling activities of the day.
A Successful Event: Looking to the Future
Overall, the CHS Student Council’s Christmas Extravaganza served as a heartwarming testament to community spirit during the holiday season. The students demonstrated exceptional organization, proving that not only can they lead successful events, but they can also create cherished experiences for families in Chester.
Looking ahead, the hope remains strong for a second annual Christmas Extravaganza, building upon this year’s success to forge deeper connections within the community and spread even more holiday cheer.
Whether you're a local looking for things to do in St. Louis or a visitor interested in experiencing true Missouri holiday festivities, events like these enrich our community fabric and remind us of the joy found in giving back and celebrating together.
